Clinics and Services

Our nurses are fully trained and able to deal with a number of minor ailments, offer professional advice and advise whether a doctor’s appointment is necessary. In addition, they offer: 

  • Family Planning Advice and Services - including long acting methods e.g Coils and Contraceptive Implants
  • Cervical Smears
  • Travel Advice and Immunisation
  • Dressings
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Removal of Sutures
  • Advice on the Treatment of Minor Injuries   and  Illnesses
  • Nurse Specialist for Asthma, Menopause and Coronary Heart Disease
  • Dietitian

You will then be contacted with a booking appointment at either at New Ash Green Surgery or Darenth Childrens' Centre (dependent on your home address).

Childhood Immunisations

NHSE have launched a childhood vaccination campaign, specifically targeting measles, mumps, rubella uptake and are asking for parents to make sure their child is up to date with all vaccinations.

Starting nursery or a new school?

When starting nursery your children will be learning and playing with other children. They could be at risk of catching preventable diseases if they are not up to date with their vaccinations. Check their personal health record (red book) or contact us to ensure your child has had all their vaccinations.

Diabetic Pre-Conception Clinic

If you are planning a pregnancy and have either type 1 or type 2 diabeties you can be referred to the Diabeties Clinic at Darenth Valley by contacting us online.

Dietitian

Dietitian service is provided by Community Services every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month, on alternate weeks. You can self-refer by contacting us online, stating you would like to see a dietitian.

Flu and Pneumococcal Immunisation

Seasonal Flu Vaccination is available from September to January.

By appointment only, please ring 01474 702 127 or 01474 873 828.

You are eligible for a flu vaccination if you are aged 65 years and over, or in one of the 'at-risk' groups:

  • Chronic respiratory disease - this includes copd and asthma that requires continuous or repeated use of inhaled or systemic steroids or with previous exacerbations requiring hospital admission
  • Chronic heart disease
  • Chronic renal disease
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Chronic neurological disease
  • Diabetes
  • Immunosuppression
  • Pregnant women
  • Carers - those who are in receipt of a carer's allowance, or those who are the main carer of an older or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer falls ill.

If you are housebound and unable to get to either surgery for vaccination please ring the surgery to be added to the list of those to be vaccinated at home.

Health Visitors

To contact the Health Visiting Team please call 0300 123 3168.

Medical Examinations

If required, eg by an insurance company, these are charged at the standard BMA rates. If you need a special examination please request by contacting us online under the admin section.

Mental Health

If you are struggling with mental health problems or have concerns please contact us online.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery and joint injections are undertaken. Assessment will be required first - please contact us online

Non-NHS Services

Some services fall outside the NHS remit and for these a charge may be made. These include medical insurance claim forms; private certificates; holiday cancellation claim forms; some travel vaccinations and various special examinations for employment; sports etc. A full list of these services is displayed on our notice board and kept at the reception desk together with current prices as recommended by the British Medical Association.

Phlebotomy

Our health care assistants (HCA) are available to take blood for tests.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy service is provided by Healthshare at New Ash Green surgery on a weekly basis. You can self-refer for basic medical problems such as: lower back pain, joint pain at Healthshare DGS or the doctor can refer you for this service.

When you are contacted by Healthshare you will be offered the next available appointment, please note this may not be at New Ash Green surgery as the service is also available at other GP practices in the area.

Shingles Vaccine

Am I eligible?

If you have a severely weakened immune system you will be eligible to have the Shingles vaccine from 50 years of age.

If you are over 70 years old and have not had a Shingles vaccine before you remain eligible up until your 80th birthday.

Smoking Cessation

Our HCA is available to assist, encourage and monitor your progress in smoking cessation. Please contact reception to arrange an appointment.

Travel Immunisation

If you intend to go aboard on holiday you may need the protection of vaccinations.

Please complete a travel form or collect from reception and return at least 6 week before your travel date.
